MOST “HIP” STYLE
Whether they are spotted wearing the latest fashion trends or simply know how to dress to impress, these professors were voted to have the most "hip" style at Miami.
STEPHANIE S. ROLLIE
Department: Communication
Number of years at Miami: Four
Surprised by nomination? I was surprised by the nomination, but not about the category.
Does the description fit you well? Yes, I want to be seen as a fun, confi dent, hip, 30-something professional. Self-described style: I want my clothes to be an extension of my personality. I want my students to be able to look at me and say, "I hope I dress like that when I'm in my 30s."
What inspires you to dress the way you do? The success of shows like Sex and the City create an opportunity for women in their 30s and 40s to take bigger fashion risks in the workplace. One can wear fun, fashionable clothes and still look professional. That's what I aim for.

Department: Marketing
Years at Miami: 22
Does the description fit you well? I don't think I would describe my style of dressing as "hip." However, I do try to dress professionally and that is probably a holdover from my days of working in industry.
Self-described style: Fashionable for someone my age. I don't do "trendy." I just try to dress age appropriate and look as professional as possible.
What inspires you to dress the way you do? I have always loved fashion but I won't pay the outrageous prices for designer clothes. I look for clothing that is comfortable to wear and looks appropriate for the occasion.

Does the description fit you well? I think so. Self-described style: Traditional, conservative, coordinated, tasteful
What inspires you to dress the way you do? I like to look professional. I feel that dressing in a professional style shows that I am respectful of my students and of the position I hold.

CLIVE F. GETTY
Department: Art
Number of years at Miami: 31
Does the description fit you well? Not sure.
What is a professor supposed to look like these days? Self-described style: Casual stylish
What inspires this look? As an art historian, I introduce students to magnificent works of art. And even though it is not possible to compete with them, it seems only fitting that, in homage to them, I should present a carefully composed appearance as well.

Department: Kinesiology and Health
Number of years at Miami: 31
Surprised by nomination? I was absolutely taken by surprise by this nomination.
Self-described style: I am not sure that I have a style; I try to purchase clothing that is more "classic," that is, that stands the test of time. I do not believe that I have a lot of what others might consider "trendy" clothing.
What inspires you to dress the way you do? I try to bring a level of professionalism to the classroom and I believe that how we dress has the potential to set the tone.

Department: Music
Number of years at Miami: Five
Surprised by nomination? Yes. I had no idea that anyone was awake in class.
Does the description fit you well? No, it doesn't f t well at all. I'm a size 16 and the description is much too large Self-described style: Loud, but conservative
What inspires you to dress the way you do? The weather and the local laws relating to public decency.
MOST “LAID BACK” STYLE
![]() |
Department: English
Number of years at Miami: Four
Does the description fit you well? I can't complain. "Laid-back" is still a step away from "laid out."
Self-described style: Late early modern, Arch Gothic meets Sunnydale High School. Deliciously confused. Buffy meets Braveheart.
Anything else you would like your students or MQ to know? I suck at mini-golf.

Department: Journalism
Number of years at Miami: Ten
Self-described style: Efficient
Surprised by nomination? I always figured my blue-jeanssweatshirt- baseball cap look would catch up with me someday. I wouldn't be surprised if someday I received an invitation to appear on What Not To Wear.
Does the description fit you well? I'd say it is the most gracious way to describe my appearance.
J.E. ELLIOT, III

Department: Architecture and Interior Design
Number of years at Miami: 20
Surprised by nomination? I am beyond the surprise stage with these weasels.
Does the description fit you well? No, it's a bit loose around the middle. One prefers a more tailored fit. Self-described style: With dread in my voice.
What inspires you to dress the way you do? Modesty and the weather.

Loved the best dressed professors at Miami, but what about the students? I know a few that are exceptionally dressed.
