Miami's Closet: What Being GLBTQ Really Means

Miami University junior Heather Weaver was walking home from a latenight study session when she was met by a group of students heading Uptown. Keeping to herself, Weaver neared her dormitory on Western Campus. Passing the group of six students, she heard the question, "Is that a boy or a girl?" Donning casual jeans and a T-shirt beneath a shaved head, her appearance is not stereotypically feminine.

Now more than ever students are appreciating the importance of free speech, something Joy Davis, a Miami University junior, learned about in one of her political science classes last spring. It was this that sparked her enthusiasm for creating the new diversity magazine, The Crucible, which highlights a multicultural aspect at Miami that is often overlooked.

Never Leaving Oxford

Moving to Oxford. Some students leave and never come back. Others return and never leave. On graduation day, thousands of seniors will be waving goodbye to Oxford, wishing they never had to leave the cobblestone streets and small Uptown businesses they've grown to love.
