Nearly a thousand girls participate in sorority recruitment at the beginning of each spring semester. For most of them, despite the agony of rush, it's totally worth it. But what about those who don't get bids? Those who sacrificed a week of their winter breaks, went out shopping for particular clothes, traveled to a total of 17 sororities, wasted a full six days attending hours of parties in sorority suites, to find out they weren't accepted into a sorority.
Anyone who has shopped at Oxford's Kroger in the last few months has noticed hanging plastic, empty shelves and construction workers everywhere. Since June 2009, when the renovations began, shopping at Kroger has been an unusual experience due to the store's massive renovations.
Some people saw it and thought it was an eyesore. Tony Abbas saw it and thought it was an opportunity. In late March, Abbas, together with his business partner of more than 10 years, Alex Riahi, will open the Oxford Hookah Lounge in the dilapidated Uptown building that used to house Bruno's Pizza in days gone by.

Mark and Will Weisman, owners of the fi ve bars that many call home-Brickstreet, Skybox, Tonic, 45 East and Decibel-have created a dance club atmosphere that students will be hard pressed to fi nd anywhere else in town.
